09.30 AM Mallika is the retro-city reflecting the past Siamese lifestyle in the Chao Phraya River Basin. During the reign of King Chulalongkorn, Rama V (1873-1910 A.D.), the people’s way of life in 1905 A.D. was plentifully changed. The most pronounced was the abolition of slavery. When freed, these former Siamese slaves had to live and earn a living by themselves without control and supports from their noblemen and masters anymore. They had to live a life of self-sufficiency, self-reliant, and in harmony with all other Siamese people. These changing patterns of lifestyle are the cornerstone of today’s Thai people.
11.00 AM Driver take you go to takiran Train station. and stop at Death Railway Station.
This Death Railway was built during the Second World War by prisoners of the Allies and Asian workers which the Japanese Army arranged to construct a strategic route through Myanmar. Currently, the end of this route is Ban Tha Sao or Namtok Station. The distance to waterfall from Kanchanaburi Station to Namtok Station is about 77 km. “The more railway sleepers, the more workers - prisoners of war who were forced to build this railway were dead”— this is the story of the Thai-Burma Railway. The distance of 415 km, reflects the brutality and hardship of prisoners of war, which is the reason why this railway is called ”the Death Railway”.
12.30 pm lunch at Keeree Mantra Restaurant. (pay by yourself) The restaurant is well-designed and decorated. The atmosphere is fantastic especially the mountain view, the lake and the green field. It is definitely a place to chill out. The food is good. You can visit it anytime you want from morning til nightfa
14.30 Pm stop to see Bridge over the River Kwai Kanchanaburi in Myanmar border, is home to the famous Bridge River Kwai. During WW II, Japan constructed the meter-gauge railway line from Ban Pong, Thailand to Thanbyuzayat, Burma. The line passing through the scenic Three Pagodas Pass runs for 250 miles. This is now known as the Death Railway.
The railway line was meant to transport cargo daily to India, to back up their planned attack on India. The construction was done using POWs and Asian slave laborers in unfavorable conditions. The work started in October 1942 was completed in a year. Due to the difficult terrain, thousands of laborers lost their lives. It is believed that one life was lost for each sleeper laid in the track.
